Covonia Medicated Sore Throat Lozenges are designed to treat the symptoms of a sore throat, red throat and disorders of the pharynx accompanied by irritation. In the case of bacterial infection accompanied by fever, additional treatment is necessary.

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children

Store below 25°C

Do not use after the expiry date. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month

How to Use :

Always use Covonia Throat Lozenges exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. This medicine must not be used for long periods. Consult a doctor if your symptoms worsen or do not improve after three to four days.

Adults: 6 to 10 lozenges per day. Allow the lozenge to melt in the mouth slowly

In children and adolescents from 12 years old: 3 to 5 lozenges per day

If you are allergic to chlorhexidine dihydrochloride or lidocaine hydrochloride monohydrate, or any of the other ingredients of Covonia Lozenges

On children younger than 12 years old

Precautions :

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Covonia Medicated Sore Throat Lozenges if any of the following warnings apply to you or have been the case in the past:

Covonia Lozenges should not be used for long periods, uninterruptedly or repeatedly. Limit the use to strictly necessary relief of pain and irritation

In case of excessive dose (more than 20 lozenges per day), there is a small risk of decreased control over the swallowing reflex

For young children who have a history of convulsions - this medicine contains levomenthol

If you are using other medication. Please also read the section headed “Other medicines and Covonia Lozenges”

Children: Do not use this medicine on children younger than 12 years old.

Other medicines and Covonia Lozenges: Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using, have recently used or might use any other medicines. Do not use simultaneously with other disinfectants.

Covonia Lozenges and food and drink: No special precautions needed.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding: If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you might be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine. If the aforementioned precautions are respected, Covonia Lozenges can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Inform your doctor that you are using this medicine.

Driving and using medicines: No special precautions needed.

Covonia Lozenges contain Levomenthol and Sorbitol: Covonia Lozenges contain levomenthol; be careful with young children who have a history of convulsions. Covonia Lozenges contain 1209mg sorbitol per lozenge. Sorbitol is a source of fructose. If your doctor has told you or your child that you have an intolerance to some sugars, or you have been diagnosed with hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI: a rare genetic disorder in which a person cannot break down fructose), contact your doctor before you or your child take or receive this medicinal product. Sorbitol may cause mild gastrointestinal discomfort and have a mild laxative effect. The calorific value is 2.6Kcal/g sorbitol.

Warning: Do not take more medicine than the leaflet tells you to.

If you use more Covonia Medicated Sore Throat Lozenges than you should: This medicine contains only a fraction of the toxic dose. If used appropriately, the risks of an overdose are very small. Symptoms of an overdose are: restlessness, tinnitus, breathing difficulties, disruption of the cardiac rhythm, reduced control of the swallowing reflex.

If you forget to use Covonia Lozenges: No special precautions needed.

If you stop using Covonia Lozenges: No special precautions needed. If you have further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist

Side effects: Like all medicines, Covonia Lozenges can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Possible side effects include:

Allergic reactions of the skin and of mucous membranes

In case of protracted and uninterrupted use, a brown colouring of the teeth can occur. This brown colour is easy to remove

Taste disorders, an irritating feeling on the tongue and severe allergic reactions (anaphylactic reactions) may occur

Reporting of side effects: If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This includes any side effects not listed in this leaflet. By reporting side effects, you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.
