What it does:
BENYLIN® Chesty Coughs Non-Drowsy works deep down in the chest to help loosen phlegm, so that when you cough you can actually cough some of the phlegm up. This helps clear bronchial congestion.
How it works:
Active ingredient guaifenesin helps thin and loosen phlegm in your chest, making it easier to cough up.
The active ingredient levomenthol also helps to relieve congestion to make it easier to breathe.
What is a chesty cough?
Chesty coughs are caused by a build-up of phlegm in the lungs and on the chest.
The cough mechanism kicks in to try and get rid of this excess phlegm.

If anyone has taken too much of this product, contact a doctor or your nearest Accident & Emergency department (Casualty), taking this pack with you. Do not give this medicine after the expiry date shown on the bottle. Keep the bottle tightly closed. There are no special storage instructions for this medicine. Keep out of the sight and reach of children. This medicine is unlikely to cause side-effects unless your child is allergic to the ingredients. If your child experiences any of the following, stop giving the medicine and seek immediate medical help. See a doctor at once: ■ Unexplained wheezing or difficulty in breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, neck or throat (severe allergic reactions). If your child experiences any other side-effects not listed here or if you are not sure about anything, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Some of the ingredients can cause problems: ■ This product contains 2.15 g glucose and 1.7 g sucrose in each 5 ml, which may be harmful to the teeth. If you have been told by your doctor that your child has an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before using this medicine. This should be taken into account in patients with diabetes. ■ Carbohydrate content of this medicine is 3.4 g per 5 ml. ■ This medicine contains 3.53mg propylene glycol (E1520) in each 5ml dose, which is equivalent to 0.71mg/ml. ■ This medicine contains 10 mg sodium benzoate (E211) in each 5ml which is equivalent to 2 g/ml. ■ This medicine contains less than 1 mmol sodium (23 mg) per 5 ml, that is to say essentially ‘sodium-free’. ■ This medicine contains 0.000053 mg benzyl alcohol in each 5ml which is equivalent to 0.000011 mg/ml. Benzyl alcohol may cause allergic reactions. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice if you are pregnant or breast-feeding or if you have a liver or kidney disease. This is because large amounts of benzyl alcohol can build-up in your body and may cause side effects (called “metabolic acidosis”). Do not use for more than a week in young children (less than 3 years old), unless advised by your doctor or pharmacist. This is due to an increased risk due to accumulation in young children.
